Words from the Chair
Welcome to the website of the Department of Accounting. The Department of Accounting provides undergraduate, master's and executive master's programs. Undergraduate students attend classes at Taipei campus, while all masters' students attend classes at Jihe Complex, opposite Shihlin Night Market. Not only do the department's faculty take teaching seriously, they are highly experienced, pay great attention to students’ lives, and attach great importance to their career development. The teachers are trusted by the students to lead them to learn professional knowledge, participate in activities, grow and thrive. Meanwhile, the administrative team takes responsibility to assist teachers and students by providing various services and support. Under the joint efforts of the teachers, administrative team and all students of the Department of Accounting, a sound learning environment has been established with a stable and solid learning atmosphere.
With regard to curriculum planning, the core accounting lessons focus on nurturing students’ professional skills and literacy with a goal to acquire accredited bookkeeper and accountant licenses. This core is supplemented with tax in practice, management, legal and accounting information courses to expand students’ vision and orientation. To cultivate international concepts, third-year students can apply for student exchange programs with more than 90 cooperating foreign sister schools. To realize the industry-academia cooperation, the Department has also opened senior student business internship courses to allow students to practice at cooperating accounting firms and general enterprises with the purpose to prepare students to enter the workplace successfully. For students who wish to continue their studies, the Department also provides a five-year plan wherein upper class students can apply to take advanced courses, thereby obtaining both bachelor's and master's degrees within five years to help them with efficient career planning.
With regard to departmental achievements, the accounting faculty and students have excellent performances in various off-campus competitions, such as Faculty MOST Research Grants, College Students’ MOST Research Grants, Nationwide College and University Computer Evaluation Case Competition, University Cheerleading Competition, etc. In addition, the Department of Accounting has earned Excellent Community Assessment Award for many years. Meanwhile, the Student Association has been actively involved in organizing activities regularly, including the Welcome Camp, Winter Dance Party, various sports games, etc. The rich and interesting activities have attracted keen participation of students.
Looking ahead, in addition to continue focusing on cultivating students’ professional accounting abilities and guiding them to acquire licenses, the Department of Accounting also strives to establish departmental characteristics to enhance students’ internationalization and creative skills. In 2018, we grouped our professional courses into accounting program and taxation program. Secondly, the faculty and administrative team regularly assess students’ results and adjust the curriculum framework as needed in line with the industry, so that the knowledge learned by students is able to meet the future needs of the country and society.
